Servicing Scotland’s Scenic Sites: Klargester BB BioDisc Repair Amid Highland Rain

A regular servicing schedule with RA Dalton ensures that systems always remain compliant, efficient and environmentally sound – even in the most remote and picturesque locations.

In this recent service call, our engineer attended a site in the Scottish Highlands to investigate issues with a Klargester BB BioDisc unit. Despite the stunning scenery, the weather proved challenging, with heavy rain contributing to the problem at hand.

Service Overview: Klargester BB BioDisc – Flooding Investigation and Component Replacement

Upon arrival, our engineer found the wastewater treatment tank levels to be correct, but the unit had experienced flooding, likely caused by surface water entering through the inlet drainage and failing to exit quickly enough via the outlet pipe.

System Assessment and Emergency Planning

  • The engineer consulted with the site’s maintenance team and proposed a practical solution to prevent future flooding of the motor gearbox.

Mechanical Remediation

  • The motor gearbox and capacitor box covers were removed, revealing both were full of water.
  • The motor gearbox was replaced, along with a new top pulley and belt, as the original belt was damaged and stiff.
  • The capacitor box was cleaned thoroughly, and all electrical connections were checked and confirmed safe.

System Recommissioning

  • Power was restored to the unit and the BioDisc resumed normal operation, rotating as expected.

Recommendations for Long-Term Performance

To ensure continued system reliability and environmental compliance, our engineer advised:

  • A full investigation into the inlet drainage to prevent surface water ingress, which can disrupt the biological treatment process.
  • Inspection of the outlet pipe for potential blockages that may be restricting flow and contributing to flooding.

Restored Operation and Preventative Measures in Place

This targeted service restored the Klargester BB BioDisc to full operational condition and introduced preventative strategies to mitigate future flooding risks. The visit highlights RA Dalton’s commitment to delivering high-quality wastewater servicing – even in challenging weather and remote locations.

✅ Restored mechanical function of the BioDisc
✅ Prevented further water damage to electrical components
✅ Improved system resilience against surface water flooding
