Job Description:

Are you passionate about caring for the environment?

We are looking for a Wastewater Environmental Consultant with experience or strong knowledge in the wastewater sector to support projects focused on water quality, wastewater treatment, and environmental compliance. Working with your colleagues to support clients in maintaining and improving their high-quality wastewater discharges and providing expert technical support to the team.  We are wastewater specialists and environmental problem solvers with a focus on tackling water pollution.  Ensuring that discharges from our wastewater treatment works always meet environmental compliance is central to this role, while working with the team to investigate operational issues and identify solutions to improve our environmental performance.  You will work with water companies, regulators, and infrastructure clients to help manage environmental risks and improve sustainability outcomes across wastewater operations and projects.  You will work with clients, landowners, and developers to design nutrient off-setting and mitigation schemes, as well as consideration of Sustainable urban Drainage Systems (SuDS), sewage treatment, water resilience and water resource management.

General Responsibilities:

· Support environmental assessments for wastewater and water infrastructure projects

· Contribute to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), permit applications, and compliance reporting

· Assess impacts on water quality, aquatic environments, and surrounding ecosystems

· Working to ensure that discharges of treated effluent comply with environmental permits and working alongside colleagues to undertake investigations and technical projects.

· Interpret and apply UK regulations relating to wastewater discharges and environmental protection

· Assist in developing mitigation strategies and pollution prevention measures

· Analyse environmental monitoring data (e.g. effluent quality, river health indicators)

· Prepare clear, concise technical reports for clients and regulators

· Liaise with stakeholders including water companies, local authorities, and environmental regulators

Requirements and Skills:

· MSc Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, or a related discipline covering wastewater treatment processes

· 2–5 years’ recent experience in environmental consultancy within the water or wastewater sector

· Membership (or working toward) a relevant professional body (e.g. IEMA, CIWEM)

· Understanding of current UK environmental legislation and industry forecasts (e.g. Environmental Permitting Regulations, Water Framework Directive)

· A UK Driving licence is required

· Strong analytical and report-writing skills

· Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of GIS or water modelling tools is an advantage

· Proactive confident communicator with a friendly, collaborative, and innovative attitude to clients and colleagues

· Well-organised and high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

· Positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to learn

· Ability to handle confidential information professionally

· Experience working with water utilities or infrastructure projects

· Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and technologies

· Knowledge of nutrient neutrality

· Familiarity with sustainability, resilience, and net zero strategies in the water sector
