Pit soakaways to Pumped Klargesters.

When a watercourse is not readily available as a discharge location this can limit the options for what is available for a new installation, we recently became involved with a job that had a property experiencing a multitude of issues with their ageing septic tanks and pit soakaway therefore they were looking for a new wastewater setup that would eliminate the issues experienced.

Gravity flow on this property was not an option as the percolation value and space limitations meant that the only option would be to install a new pumped treatment plant to lift the treated effluent to a high-level drainage field.

The Klargester BioTec 1 IPS.

Our Contracts manager Alan law attended the property to work out the best solution considering the location requirements, it was therefore recommended that a Klargester BioTec 1 IPS package sewage treatment plant was installed pumping up to a new 50m drainage field at the top section of the property.

Due to the location move there was several drainage modifications that were required, this surmounted to:

  • 15m of new 4” inlet pipework.
  • 20m of 50mm Rising main.
  • 50m of Soakaway consisting of 4” slotted pipe bedded and surrounded with clean gravel with a terram on top.
  • 3 no. new manholes (one on the inlet and two on the outlet).
  • 6m Surface water diversion.

Drainage field decisions

The ground porosity at the top section of the property had considerably better percolation value and was the ideal spot to install the new drainage field.  To also ensure the system did not experience issues with surface water this was disconnected from the foul drainage line, it is vital to ensure that this is not connected otherwise in wet weather this may see the system flooding.

Our experience in the field allows us to carry out each of our jobs with a level of professionalism and reassurance that the work you are having done is carried out to the right standard.
