The Bioficient way forward.
In May 2019 our contracts manager Ian Murray attended a property in Patton, Kendal to carry out an inspection on a septic tank installed to serve the 4 bedroom property. Whilst on site we carried out dye tests due to the tank’s close proximity to the watercourse, although it was unlikely that this discharged directly to the watercourse we still recommended this was upgraded to a sewage treatment plant.
The discharge from the septic tank to soakaway was extremely slow and in the winter would prove problematic with poor ground porosity causing the drainage to back up. Our proposal was to utilise the existing inlet drainage, pipe through and infill the old septic tank and install a new package treatment plant below which would directly discharge to the watercourse.
The Kingspan Klargester Bioficient 1
The installation itself was a more tricky affair, with access issues into the garden making it next to impossible to get an adequate machine to install the tank we opted to install the new Kingspan Klargester BioFicient 1 from the neighbouring yard and utilising a larger 8 ton Excavator. The excavation work was done from the concrete pad on the other side of the hedge (this was required to be sufficiently trimmed prior to our start on site).
Due to the location of the installation an EA permit was also required, nearby to the property there was a known location for protected shellfish waters. This was another one of our main reasons for installing a new package treatment plant as the Kingspan Klargester Bioficient 1 would massively improve the effluent quality and limit any risks to the environment.
