A new location for minimal visual impact

In our line of work, we come across many different reasons why the installation of a new Septic tank/ Sewage treatment plant/ Pump Station takes place, most of which are undoubtably due to the existing system’s failure, non-compliance with the current regulations (The 2020 General Binding Rules) or general expansion of a site.

However, this is not always the case, and we occasionally see circumstances where a new system is required to be installed due to a visual preference. Such was the situation with a recent installation we carried out in Northern Cumbria.

The Klargester BB BioDisc package sewage treatment plant

The 3-bedroom and 4-bedroom holiday cottages were served by an existing BioDisc sewage treatment plant located in the lawned area near to the properties, it was therefore our proposal to install a new Klargester BB BioDisc package sewage treatment plant on a slight embankment in a rough grassed area.

This would ultimately allow us to limit the visual impact without compromising the efficiency and effluent quality, the BioDisc is undoubtably one of the best systems on the market with low running costs, and for instances where the effluent required nitrification the system can be adapted to comply with permit requirements.

Keeping the environment in mind

As the system being installed was similar to the one already in situ, this enabled us to utilise the existing control panel, saving costs for the customer and reducing unnecessary waste. The old unit then had all mechanical parts removed and safely disposed of before the tank was decommissioned and infilled with gravel.

Once the new system was fully installed and commissioned the area around the new installation was levelled and graded to a neat and tidy machine finish which allows the customer to landscape the area back if desired or spread grass seed ready for next year.
