RA Dalton was approached by a client during the early stages of purchasing a new property. The homeowner required expert guidance regarding an existing septic tank and sought a compliant, long-term solution for wastewater management. Following a detailed site inspection, our team recommended the installation of a modern sewage treatment system to replace the outdated infrastructure.

Our initial assessment revealed that the existing septic tank and soakaway system serving the three-bedroom property were no longer suitable. We proposed the installation of a Klargester BioAir 2 packaged sewage treatment plant, selected for its low noise output and energy efficiency. The new system would be positioned in front of the old tank, with a drainage field located in the rear garden.

Site access presented several challenges, inclusive of a section of dry stone wall which required temporary removal to allow machinery access. Additionally, the team had to work around an existing electrical cable. Through careful planning and clear communication with the client, together we implemented a minimally invasive strategy that enabled efficient execution of the works.

The scope of works:

The project involved full site preparation, including delivery logistics and welfare provisions for the installation team. RA Dalton installed a Klargester BioAir 2 packaged sewage treatment plant, securely housed within a reinforced concrete surround. Ancillary works included the installation of inspection chambers and connection of new inlet and outlet pipework.

A new drainage field was created using slotted pipework and clean gravel, protected by a geotextile membrane to ensure long-term performance. Electrical connections were completed in accordance with certification requirements, with final commissioning of the system carried out on site.

The existing septic tank was emptied and professionally decommissioned, then backfilled and reinstated. All surplus excavated material was removed and disposed of responsibly.

All works were carried out in accordance with current building regulations and environmental standards.
