Solving Spring Water Supply Issues: HDPE Vessel Installation
Project Overview & Site Background
RA Dalton was appointed to complete a local wastewater installation, tackling a critical issue: the property’s original spring had almost dried up, leaving water supply unreliable during dry spells. Our solution involved installing a 3000L below-ground HDPE vessel and creating a sustainable system to ensure consistent water flow.
The property relied on a natural spring system that had deteriorated over time. During site inspections, RA Dalton discovered a secondary spring and an unused MDPE pipe, which influenced our design for a future-proof water management system.
Our Proposal
To restore reliability, RA Dalton designed a system that combined storage, filtration and maintenance access:
- 3000L HDPE storage vessel installed in the upper grass field.
- Concrete settlement chamber to manage silt and improve water quality.
- Discharge system using 50mm MDPE pipework to reconnect to the property.
- Overflow pipeline terminating in a nearby ditch for safe water management.
This approach ensured efficient filtration, long-term durability and easy maintenance.
Works Carried Out
Once the design was agreed, RA Dalton mobilised to site and implemented a structured approach to ensure the installation was completed safely and efficiently. The first step involved preparing the site with temporary fencing and welfare facilities, creating a secure working environment for our team and protecting the surrounding property.
Excavation works were carried out to install the HDPE storage vessel and the concrete settlement chamber, both positioned to optimise water collection and filtration. These components were installed in strict accordance with manufacturer guidelines to guarantee durability and compliance with industry standards. The settlement chamber was a critical element of the design, as it allows silt and debris to settle before water enters the main storage vessel, reducing the risk of blockages and improving water quality.
To connect the springs and integrate the new system, we laid approximately 140 metres of drainage pipework, carefully encased in granular material where required to provide stability and protect against ground movement. This network ensures that water from multiple sources flows efficiently into the storage vessel, maintaining a consistent supply even during dry periods.
Added Value
Additional works included clearing existing land drains and restoring the site by levelling and tidying the wooded area, leaving the property not only functional but visually improved. We also ensured system checks were conducted to guarantee optimal performance and long-term durability.
Every stage of the project was completed with precision, ensuring the system is robust, easy to maintain and capable of delivering reliable water supply for years to come.
