Two Systems, One Solution: Restoring Flow at a Dual Wastewater Site

At RA Dalton, we know that maintaining the health of a wastewater treatment system requires more than just routine checks – it demands attention to detail, technical expertise and a proactive approach. In this recent case study, our engineer carried out a dual servicing visit to a site housing both a Klargester BL Biodisc and a Twin Crude Pump Station, ensuring both systems continue to operate efficiently and reliably.

Part One: Servicing the Klargester BL Biodisc

Upon arrival, our engineer found the Klargester BL Biodisc system operational. The engineer carried out a thorough inspection of the frame work and U-bolts – all were found intact and were tensioned to prevent future failures.

Next, we checked all four bearings and greasematics, which were still half full – a good sign of ongoing lubrication but noted for future top-up. The primary discs, however, were heavy with sludge, indicating the need for a full empty and wash down to restore optimal biological treatment.

The internal cut-out float for the pump station was inspected and confirmed to be functioning correctly. The motor gearbox was fully operational, though slightly noisier than usual – something to monitor in future visits. The sludge return pump was working in coordination with the timer and control panel, which, along with the beacon, was operating as expected.

Recommendation: A full empty and wash down of the Biodisc system to remove excess sludge and restore treatment efficiency.

Part Two: Servicing the Twin Crude Pump Station

The second part of the visit focused on the Twin Crude Pump Station, which was found to be operating at the correct height. Each pump was amp tested individually, confirming they were pulling the correct load with no blockages or defects detected.

Our engineer then cleaned and tested the control floats, ensuring they worked in coordination with the panel and pumps. The beacon was also tested and confirmed to be functioning correctly.

However, the system is beginning to show signs of sludge accumulation and a full empty is recommended to prevent future performance issues.

Recommended Remedial Work: Supervise a full empty and wash down of both the pump station and Biodisc system simultaneously.

Conclusion: Proactive Maintenance for Long-Term Reliability

This dual servicing visit highlights the importance of preventative maintenance and the value of having experienced engineers who can identify early signs of wear and recommend timely interventions. By addressing both mechanical and biological aspects of these systems, we help our clients avoid costly breakdowns and maintain environmental compliance.

At RA Dalton, we’re proud to offer expert servicing for a wide range of sewage treatment systems – from domestic installations to complex commercial setups.
