Drainage Board connections and a Klargester BioTec 2 IPS.

Earlier this year in February our contracts manager Ian Murray attended a property in North Yorkshire which was looking to install a new package sewage treatment plant to streamline the drainage setup from two properties on site to connect to one system.

The system we proposed to install was the Klargester BioTec 2 package sewage treatment plant to handle the sewage from both properties. The design for the installation included a discharge to the drainage board owned watercourse.

From the 1st January 2020 to conform to the General Binding rules for any discharge into a watercourse you will need a package sewage treatment plant installed with certification for BS-EN12566-3, when connecting to a drainage board owned watercourse there are sometimes other stipulations in place that need to be taken into consideration when providing a scope of works.

Drainage boards and General Binding Rules 2020.

Before discharging to a watercourse it is always worthwhile just checking if it is owned by a drainage board, for this site in particular the ditch to which we were going to discharge to was owned by local Internal drainage board.

We were to assist the customer with this application and various details were required to gain approval this included discharge location, estimated daily flow, location of surface water discharge.

One of the stipulations of the drainage board was that the combined flow of the surface water and treated effluent could not exceed the existing flow rate. To satisfy this we diverted some of the roof/ surface water connections to a low level soakaway located in their yard allowing the anticipated flow to be in the region of the original discharge rate.

The Klargester BioTec Installation.

Once the approval had come through for the discharge to the dyke at the bottom of the garden, our installation team soon cracked on with beginning the installation. With prior knowledge of the area we anticipated that there was a possibility of hitting running sand in the area.

We had the job all geared up with shoring and a hydrainer pump on standby should the ground conditions require it… Thankfully after our install team had dug an initial trial excavation and only hitting running sand towards the last small section of the dig we determined this was not required and it was safe to install in the sandy clay ground.

Our engineers worked quickly and efficiently installing the new Klargester BioTec 2 IPS along with 40 metres of gravity drainage (combined between the surface water soakaway and the inlet to the new system) and 65 metre of MDPE pumped main all in just under a week and a half.

Glowing review.

There is always a level of satisfaction when we receive good reviews from our customers following from their installation, it makes all the hard work our teams put in worthwhile.

Dear Ian and team,

Thank you to all of you for all of your help and advice and installing our new sewage system.

Martin and Chris have done a really great job.  They worked with good humor all week and did their utmost to cause us as little disruption as possible, considering the mammoth task they had to complete. Everything was left tidy and looking good, you can hardly tell that it all happened.

Thanks again”
